Can MonsterContracts Be Used Outside the USA?
By Nathan Ingram

Disclaimer: This article is not legal advice. We always recommend having any contract reviewed by a licensed attorney familiar with the laws in your country or region before use.
We get this question a lot—from agency owners in the UK, Canada, the EU, Australia, and beyond:
Can I use MonsterContracts if I’m not based in the United States?
The short answer? Yes.
But there are a few important things to understand before you start customizing.
Built on U.S. Legal Structure—but Adaptable
MonsterContracts is written based on U.S. legal norms and terminology. That means it follows the typical structure of contracts used by American freelancers and agencies, including governing law language and clause formatting.
However, most of the content is not country-specific. The contract primarily addresses how web projects are run—not legal codes. It covers common-sense issues like:
- Project scope
- Client responsibilities
- Revisions and delays
- Intellectual property
- Payment structure
- Ongoing care plans
These sections are universally relevant, whether you’re building a site in Atlanta or Amsterdam.
What Other International Customers Have Done
We’ve had many customers across Europe, Canada, and other regions purchase MonsterContracts successfully. The feedback is consistent: the core framework is solid, and the location-specific adjustments are minimal.
In fact, most agency owners outside the U.S. report that their local attorney only needed 1–2 hours to make any necessary changes—usually just replacing the governing law, updating currency references, or tweaking legal terms to match local standards.
The key is to treat MonsterContracts as a starting point: a strong, proven foundation for your contract that’s still flexible enough to meet local requirements.
Why We Don’t Offer Translations
MonsterContracts is currently available only in English—and we don’t offer translated versions. That’s not because we don’t want to support other languages—it’s because legal accuracy matters.
To release versions in other languages, we’d need to have each one fully vetted by a fluent, licensed attorney in that language and jurisdiction. That would require separate legal reviews for each translation, in each country, for every update. At that point, we’d be operating like an international law firm—which we’re not.
Instead, we’ve chosen to focus on what we do best: offering a smart, well-structured contract system for web professionals, in English, that you can customize and localize with your own legal advisor.
Our Recommendation
If you’re located outside the U.S. and want to use MonsterContracts:
- Customize the document with your business info, currency, and any CMS-specific terminology.
- Then, have a local attorney review it to make sure everything aligns with your country’s requirements.
- From there, you can use the same contract structure for every project—just like we recommend for our U.S.-based customers.
You don’t need to reinvent the wheel. MonsterContracts gives you the framework. Your attorney can help localize it.
And that’s still far faster, easier, and less expensive than asking your lawyer to draft a contract from scratch.
